Technology

How can technology aid interior design?

"How can technology help improve our quality of life? How can we navigate the world without using the sense of vision? Inventor and IBM Fellow Chieko Asakawa, who's been blind since the age of fourteen, is working on answering these questions. In a charming demo, she shows off some new technology that's helping blind people explore the world ever more independently ... because, she suggests, when we design for greater accessibility, everyone benefits."

Technology is a factor that has truly taken over society, and more recently we have seen the increase in 'smart homes'. At least every month there is a new piece of technology that is realized which has been designed to make our homes much more connected. Examples of this would be Amazon's Alexa and Google Home. These devices can act as your personal assistant, listen and carry out your requests and even control your heating and lighting. This advance in technology is something that designers can take advantage of. 'Smart Home' can be brought in to the Hotel Industry (which I'm sure some may have already done so) to make life easier for those who find it difficult to communicate, are visually impaired, and generally can be used as an element of fun and quirkiness within a hotel environment.

How can technology help blind people explore the world?

Summary

In summary, technology can greatly improve the quality of guests stay in a hotel. It can be functional, practical and aesthetically pleaseing. Technology can be used to control the temperature within the space, the lighting, the sound and to communicate with other individuals in the hotel. I belieive all of these factors are extremely positive and therefore, it should be implemented in to my design. The negative connotations that could be linked with this are perhaps the difficulty some users may have when using the technology.
