Research: Survey

I created a survey with 'Survey Monkey' to try and gain a deeper understanding of what I should be designing this hotel around. I want to understand the needs and concerns of those who require these extra facilities and what they find difficult when trying to find them.

I also wanted to get slightly more personal and find out the vast and varying range of disabilities those answering my surveys have or the person they are travelling with has. Once they answer this question, I felt automatically, I was able to analyse their answer with a different perspective and understanding when knowing the disability-related to their answer.

A little help from Social Media

Accessibility is extremely important and there are thousands of communities on social media dedicated to making the world a more accessible place for all individuals to enjoy. Once I posted my survey on my own social media, feedback was slow, with only 4 answers in just over an hour.

I decided to be savvy with my survey. When I began researching for this project, I had 'liked' multiple Facebook groups and Instagram pages, all of which have a different name or topic of discussion in relation to disability but all of which want the same outcome- Accessibility for all.

I messaged one blogger to tell her my concept and asked that she post/share my survey. Blogger Laura Rutherford, is the creator of the blog ' Mum on a Mission'. Her blog is dedicated to helping parents with a child with a disability and giving them information and advice to make their lives easier. Laura was more than happy to post my survey and once I sent her a small blurb/description of my project and the reason for my survey, she posted in on her Facebook page for over 5k followers to see

“PEOPLE ARE NOT DISABLED. THEY HAVE DISABILITIES. IT IS THE LACK OF ACCESSIBILITY THAT DISABLES THEM FROM LIVING THEIR LIVES LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.”
