Site Visit: Robin House

17th November 2017

My visit to Robin House gave me an incredible amount of insight into the facilities used by families on a daily basis. These facilities are ones that are not hard to introduce into the hotel industry, however, they are more or less completely overlooked. The installation of a hoist or chairlift, in areas such as leisure facilities, gives an individual the opportunity to take part in activities which are normally out of bounds for them. The addition of sensory lighting would also not only benefit those with disabilities but every individual, as they create and trigger feelings of calm and relaxation. By introducing these elements into my hotel design in a quirky and pleasant way, more individuals can benefit and utilise the hotel, and relish in a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

I was unable to take many images of certain areas due to the respecting the privacy of those using the space. I have managed to capture as many images of areas I felt to be of significance to my project, and have also utilised some images by photographer Andrew Lee.

I spoke with various members of staff and some families during my visit to Robin House. The information and advice they gave me for my project have steamed new ideas and highlighted areas of which I may need to focus on more. They have raised points of concern and areas of difficulties which they face when using hotel facilities.

Overall, my visit to Robin House was extremely enlightening and informative. The experience of viewing a multitude of different facilities, and how they benefit the people that use them greatly has given me more inspiration and desire to strive towards creating a serene and enjoyable atmosphere and experience for my hotel design.
