Frank Lloyd Wright

Laurent House

Frank Lloyd Wright was an American Interior Designer and Architect, born in the 1860s. The reason I believe he falls under the 'area of expertise' title is due to the home he designed in 1949. 'Laurent House' was one of the first residential properties designed with disability in mind. The home was designed for a wife and her husband who had been left a paraplegic due to the war. As he was confined now to a wheelchair, he requested that Wright design a home that was practical and appealing. Wright designed a beautiful and functional home, maximising both light and space. This would be one of his proudest achievements.

Rem Koolhaas

Maison Bordeaux

Rem Koolhaas designed a residential property for a wife and her husband who was wheelchair-bound due to a car accident. The house was designed with the ambition of creating a space that would free the gentleman from the constraints of his current home and allow him to access and utilise the whole space.Koolhaas designed a 3 story building with a large platform lift going up the centre. This added a sense of modernity and awe to their new home, whilst allowing its occupants to move freely around the space.

Alan Dunlop

Hazelwood School

Alan Dunlop is one of the UK's leading architects. He recently designed Hazel Wood School in Glasgow for children aged 2-18 who are Dual Sensory Impaired (Deaf and Blind). Dunlop designed the school in a way that would support the children and allow them to have all the necessary facilities they require at school. He has created a beautiful sensory experience and the children are able to lead independent lives thanks to his design.
